Suns vs. Clippers pick

The Suns-Clippers round one series shifts to Los Angeles with the series tied at one game apiece. LA held on to win game one and Phoenix evened things up in game two.

BetMGM has the Suns as 2.5-point road favorites tonight. That spread puzzles me, because it’s not like either team has looked significantly better than the other in the first two games of the series. Maybe Phoenix figured something out in game two, but I think the Clippers should be slight home favorites.

Los Angeles seems like it has more options. The Clippers go nine-deep and I think their depth will be a big factor for them on their home court, especially in comparison to the Suns.

Phoenix has gotten almost nothing from its bench in this series. The Suns bench players have combined to score 23 points in two games so far, and having that little bench contributions really limits Phoenix’s margin of error. What happens if Devin Booker or Kevin Durant has a bad game? There’s no obvious heat check guy off the bench to fill in when the team is struggling.

To be fair, the Clippers heavily rely on star power as well, with Kawhi Leonard scoring 38 and 31 points in the first two games of the series. Still, if Leonard is off his game for a bit, LA can at least turn to Norman Powell and Terance Mann, who each scored in double figures in both of the games in Phoenix.
